Volunteer Opportunities
There is no better way to offer hope and comfort than using your hands and your heart as a hospice volunteer. Every year, over 200 volunteers from Hospice of Wake County contribute hundreds of hours in administrative/outreach support. Hospice of Wake County provides many different options to help you share your talents. Ways you can make a difference:
• Family Support Volunteers – provide respite, emotional and practical support to patients & their families.
• Complementary Therapy Volunteers – provide specialized support to patients through massage therapy, pet therapy, music and the arts.
• Grief Companions – offer active listening and companionship to the newly bereaved.
• Reflections Program for Children Volunteers – assist with set up and greeting of support group attendees, help with hospitality and assist professional facilitators as needed.
• Ambassadors – provide talks and educational events to corporations, civic groups, faith communities, and health care providers on end of life care issues.
• Puppeteers – narrate and perform puppet shows.
• Administrative Support Volunteers – assist with special projects and provide clerical support in a professional medical environment.
• Other Creative Ways – Individuals may offer a special talent or service such as yard work, home repairs, musical performances, homemade meals or baked goods, or assist in fundraisers and special events, etc.
Interviews and training for volunteer positions are offered frequently. Contact our Volunteer Services Department at 919.828.0890 for more information and/or an application.
